Compliance
NepalRemit is committed to the prevention of money laundering, terrorist financing, and all forms of financial crime. As a licensed remittance payout company operating under the regulatory oversight of Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB), we maintain strict compliance standards aligned with the Asset (Money) Laundering Prevention Act, NRB Directives and Circulars, and internationally recognized AML/CFT standards set by the Financial Action Task Force (FATF).
NepalRemit works exclusively as an authorized payout partner for licensed international money transfer operators (MTOs) and remittance companies. We do not originate outbound international transfers; our role is to disburse funds sent from abroad to beneficiaries in Nepal. This distinct role shapes how our compliance program is built. Every transaction processed through NepalRemit has first been screened under the compliance framework of the originating licensed money transfer operator before reaching NepalRemit. NepalRemit then performs its own independent screening and due diligence before releasing any payout.
AML/CFT Policy
Our Anti-Money Laundering (AML) and Countering the Financing of Terrorism (CFT) policy is designed in accordance with NRB laws, directives, and circulars, and reflects international compliance practices. We cooperate fully with the Government of Nepal, Nepal Rastra Bank, the Financial Information Unit (FIU), and other relevant authorities in all efforts to detect and prevent money laundering and terrorist financing.
KYC and Transaction Reporting
Every beneficiary is required to complete a KYC form and produce valid identification before collecting a payout. In line with NRB thresholds, transactions that exceed the prescribed limit are filed as Threshold Transaction Reports (TTR). Transactions showing signs of irregularity such as multiple senders to one receiver, mismatched identification, absence of a verifiable source of funds, unclear purpose of remittance, or unusually high transaction volumes linked to one individual or entity are filed as Suspicious Transaction Reports (STR) with the FIU.
Politically Exposed Persons (PEPs) and Sanctions Screening
Every incoming payout is screened against applicable sanctions lists, watchlists, and Politically Exposed Person (PEP) databases prior to payout. Any match places the transaction on compliance hold pending manual review by our Compliance Unit, and prohibited names or entities are blocked from payout entirely.
Record Retention and Independent Audit
We retain KYC records, payout vouchers, and transaction documentation for at least five years, or such longer period as may be required under applicable law. Our compliance program is subject to periodic internal review and independent audit to ensure ongoing adherence to AML/CFT standards.
Scope of Our Compliance Role
Because NepalRemit acts solely as a payout partner, obligations that apply to the originating international money transfer companies such as outbound transaction compliance in the sender's jurisdiction, foreign licensing, or cross-border reporting under other countries' laws sit with those partner companies, not with NepalRemit. Our compliance program governs the payout leg of the transaction within Nepal.
NepalRemit reserves the right to delay, reject, suspend, or report any transaction where required by law, regulatory directive, or its internal compliance procedures.

Privacy Policy
At NepalRemit, protecting the privacy of the individuals who send and receive money through our network is fundamental to how we operate. This Privacy Policy explains what information we handle, why we handle it, and how we keep it secure.
Nature of the Information We Handle
As a payout partner, most of the transaction data we receive sender details, transfer amount, and reference information is provided to us by our international money transfer partners once a transfer has already been initiated abroad. Personal information relating to international remittance transactions may be transferred across jurisdictions by the originating money transfer operator before being provided to NepalRemit for payout processing.
In addition, we directly collect information from beneficiaries in Nepal at the time of payout, including:
Full name, address, contact number, date of birth, and identification details.
KYC documentation required to verify beneficiary identity.
Transaction and payout records (amount, date, payout channel, receiving bank/account or cash pickup details).
Technical information where our website, app, or online payout tracking tools are used (device information, IP address, browser data).
How We Use This Information
We use the information we hold to:
Verify beneficiary identity and disburse payouts to the correct recipient.
Complete mandatory KYC, CDD/EDD, and sanctions screening.
Respond to customer service inquiries and resolve payout issues.
Detect and prevent fraud, identity theft, and misuse of our payout network.
Meet reporting obligations to Nepal Rastra Bank, the FIU, and other regulators.
Improve our services and payout network.
How We Protect Your Information
We apply physical, electronic, and procedural safeguards to protect personal and transaction data, including restricted employee access, secure data storage, and encrypted transmission of sensitive information. Access to personal data is limited to staff who require it to perform their role.
While NepalRemit applies appropriate security measures, no method of electronic transmission or storage is completely secure. We continually review and improve our security controls to minimize risk.
Sharing and Disclosure
NepalRemit does not sell, trade, or rent personal information to third parties. Information may be shared only:
With the international money transfer partner that originated the transaction, where necessary to complete or verify the payout.
With Nepal Rastra Bank, the Financial Information Unit, or other regulators, where legally required.
With banks or payment channels used to complete a payout on the beneficiary's instruction.
With service providers acting on NepalRemit's behalf, subject to appropriate confidentiality and security obligations.
Where disclosure is necessary to prevent fraud, protect the security of our services, or comply with a legal process.
Data Retention
We retain personal and transaction information for as long as necessary to fulfil the purpose it was collected for, and in line with applicable legal and regulatory record-retention requirements.
Your Rights
You may contact us to ask what information we hold about you in connection with a payout, or to raise a concern about how your data has been handled. Because we act as a payout partner rather than the originating money transfer company, requests relating to a transfer's sending side (for example, how the sender's information was collected abroad) should also be directed to the originating MTO.
For any privacy-related question, please contact us through the details on our Contact Us page.
Customer Protection Policy
NepalRemit is committed to treating every customer fairly, transparently, and with the highest standard of service, whether they are collecting a payout in person, through bank deposit, or via mobile wallet.
Fair and Transparent Service
We disburse payouts strictly according to the exchange rate and amount confirmed by the sending partner at the time of transfer. NepalRemit does not impose any hidden payout charges or deductions from the amount authorized by the sending partner. Beneficiaries can verify their payout status and details before collecting funds.
Correct and Secure Disbursement
Every payout undergoes mandatory identity verification (KYC) before funds are released, to ensure money reaches the intended, verified beneficiary and to protect customers against impersonation or fraud.
Complaint and Grievance Redress
If a customer experiences a delay, discrepancy, or any issue with a payout, they may raise it directly with our customer service team. We acknowledge customer complaints promptly and strive to resolve them as quickly as reasonably practicable, in coordination with the relevant sending partner where required.
Handling Disputed or Unauthorized Transactions
Customers who suspect a payout was released in error, or wish to flag any irregularity, should notify us as soon as possible so that we can investigate. Because the originating transfer is initiated and controlled by our international partners, resolution of certain disputes (such as a sender-side cancellation or refund) may require coordination with the partner MTO. We will guide customers to the appropriate channel where the matter falls outside our payout role.
NepalRemit is responsible for the accurate payout of funds received from its authorized partners. Matters relating to the initiation, cancellation, amendment, or refund of a transfer remain subject to the policies and procedures of the originating money transfer operator.
Protection of Vulnerable Customers
We take extra care when serving elderly, first-time, or otherwise vulnerable customers, including providing clear, plain-language guidance at our payout counters and supporting beneficiaries to understand the payout process before funds are disbursed.
Fraud Awareness
Customers should never share their transaction reference number or identification documents with unauthorized persons. NepalRemit may contact customers only through official communication channels.
Data and Fund Security
Customer identification documents and payout information are handled in line with our Privacy Policy and stored securely. Cash and account-based payouts are processed only after due verification, reducing the risk of funds being disbursed to the wrong person.

Our customer service team is available to address queries about payout status, exchange rates, required documentation, or any other concern related to collecting a remittance through NepalRemit.
